Diane says: “JAZZY (Buried Treasure nom) is a sequel of sorts to 2022’s UNKNOWN COUNTRY. You may recall Lily Gladstone as Tana, pulled out of mourning her grandmother to drive to her cousin’s wedding in Texas.
“Now that same cousin’s daughter, Jasmine, (Jasmine Bearkiller Shangreaux) is in 5th/6th grade, going through those usual 5th-grade things: boys, the ebbs and flows of friendship, hairstyling, stuffed animals, the desire for/fear of growing up. The film is based on stories written by Shangreaux and co-star Syriah Fool Head Means. Adults are absent or heard off-screen.
“I have little patience now for preteen girls, especially in groups, which made the movie tough going, at least for the first hour and a quarter.
“Again blending documentary with drama, director Marissa Maltz offers micro-scenes laden with music. Not as successful as UNKNOWN COUNTRY, but obviously a labor of love.
