Brett says: “Consistent garden imagery and images of ‘faded paradise’ as the eldest allows weeds to grow and so forth fit some really subtle Biblical tie-ins throughout. As far as the brothers, there is also an interesting ‘Am I my brother’s keeper?’ theme going on as the eldest resembles a Cain role along with the artistic, ‘softer’ younger brother being Abel. Also, how appropriate it is that the youngest brother being out of the picture has already been brought up: the proverbial Seth. The fact that the family gets kicked out paradise in the end helps solidify some pretty strong Eden symbolism throughout. The fact remains, humanity is no closer to figuring the schematic out as the original sinners themselves.”
