Michael says: “I watched THE WHEEL for one reason: the female lead is played by Amber Midthunder, who captivated me in her role as Kerry, who shares a body with her brother Cary, played by Bill Irwin, in the Marvel TV show, ‘Legion.’ It was great to see her play someone a little more standard in this intriguing and moving portrait of a young couple struggling to either break-up or reconcile… that point seems to be ever-shifting. Midthunder plays Albee, who seems to just be going through the motions of the attempt at reconciliation. Her boyfriend, Walker (Taylor Gray of ‘Star Wars: Rebels’ fame) is far more invested despite the frequent indifference or actual antagonism he faces from Albee. To aid in this process, the two take a weekend away at a B&B in the woods where the only people nearby are the couple from whom they rented the place. Carly is curious, and want to help, her older fiancé Nelson wants to stay uninvolved, and goes so far as to actively put down Albee.  It makes for an uncomfortable dynamic, but the real story focuses on the two leads, and Midthunder and Gray really do a great story stepping into these characters and make you feel the pain they are going through as emotions shift, and revelations emerge. I saw this film several months ago, and as I think back on it I’m remembering it with a lot of fondness and may even try to check it out again. 4 cats
