Michael says: “Family, holiday drama disguised as horror or is it horror disguised as family, holiday drama? At any rate, an aging couple drive into NYC from Scranton, to spend time with their daughter and her new boyfriend at their new, rather dilapidated apartment along with their other daughter for Thanksgiving. There’s the usual filling in about lives, and what the relatives, or the hometown old friends are up to, the jabs and passive-aggressive (or sometimes just plain aggressive) insults tossed between family members (although some of these seem a mite harsh to me), and as more wine is consumed, the jabs get a little more pointed, and secrets that might have been better left unsaid are unearthed  There’s also the strange, rather loud, and ominous sounds coming from all parts of the building, that just put everyone, especially the audience on edge. This one is unsettling and, while not lacking in humor, darker than the usual HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS or PIECES OF APRIL fare. Sound design, cinematography and lighting are exquisite, as is the rather amazing adjustment from the theatrical to the cinematic. 4 cats
