Michael says: “After dealing with a personal crisis, Danny finds his footing as a life coach after a week-long seminar. Danny spends quite a bit of money setting up his business, including a website and office supplies, which he has borrowed from him mother. Danny ’s first client, a dispirited young man named Stephen, lacks confidence and the two slowly develop a strong, brotherly bond. A handful of other clients materialized, but when things don’t go exactly as planned, and Danny’s debut continues to grow, he begins manipulating those around him to keep himself above water. He also becomes disillusioned by his mentor and seminar-leader, Marshall, who only seems to have the time to help his success stories.

“Liam Harkins is terrific as Danny, capturing the complexity of tenderness and caring, with a confidence that borders on bluster. His slow descent is painful to watch, and first-time feature director uses tight close-ups on faces to really highlight that. Stephen McMillan is also very strong as Danny’s first and best client also hiding complexities beneath his hangdog facade. The film is funny and tough, with a lighter touch on the toxic masculinity you might expect, to focus more on caring and tenderness. But as we watch as Danny grow disillusioned to the point of desperation and terrible choices, we can only hope he learns from the condequences. Nicoll leaves ithat up to the audience to decide. 4 cats
