Cheryl says: “Absolutely harrowing, very brave filmmaking from director Nanfu Wang (ONE CHILD NATION), this doc is an essential chronicle of the origins of the virus. It’s literally like reliving what happened here, just when things are finally reopening. I lost two friends at the beginning of the outbreak here, in March and April 2020 respectively. They were both 69 years old. Everything is eerily similar to what happened in Seattle, Boston and New York: the denial propaganda by the ‘government’, the deification of the healthcare workers, the hospitals with no beds, people dying with no friends or family beside them, entire families lost. The midpoint of the film when we first see Trump made my sick, and the censorship of doctors and nurses here in the United States is inexcusable.  The parallels between the two governments’ responses to the outbreak are uncanny. I saw the director interviewed online earlier this year and she was very straightforward in her criticism of the Chinese government’s response to the crisis, especially when the interviewer tried to lead her into saying that their response was much better than that of the U.S. 4 cats
