Michael says: “This strong tale of racial injustice takes place in the 1970’s, following the lives of three young women, sisters are were separated as children, each following different paths in Los Angeles after a relocation program in the 50’s moved Indigenous Native Americans from Oklahoma. As each sister deals with different but equally toxic views of indigenous people, the film blends great costume and production design with some well-utilized magical realism to tell an important if disheartening story. Also great to see Amber Midthunder in a meaty dramatic role, which she handles beautifully.

“It was shocking to find out the legals ways the government supressed the rights and even lives of indigenous people in America, but sadly not surprising. This was an important film written, directed, starring native talent, and we need more films like this. The story was strong, but unfortunately, the script itself was pretty weak, with some fairly awkward or even embarrassing dialog. But still, overall I came away thinking about the film into the next day. 3 1/2 cats

“Screened at TIFF Lightbox, Tuesday, 9/15, writer/director, cast, and crew in attendance”
