“Eight-year-old Aurora is determined to get her Intriguing Neighbor’s help in killing the monster under her bed. Sumptuous set design/locations (Art Nouveau in Budapest), costumes, and inspired fabrics overshadow all other aspects of the film.
“Best when comic; tedious as horror.
“My favorite part: close-ups of Mads Mikkelsen’s socked foot, as it repeatedly, gracefully, slips out of his shoe and circles the floor to wipe up drops of blood. I kept hoping it would lead to a full-on dance.
