| Thom says: “Nearly all my friends had loved Blomkamp’s earlier South African Sci-fi blast DISTRICT 9 & ELYSIUM wasn’t half-bad, and I was on a roll (sans the ridiculously high price of $14.50 because it was a ‘dinner theatre’), so I took a chance and was patently thrilled with this high-action moral quandary of a film [with its] strange Genet-like gangster, low-life characters that manage to come alive. This is a story about machines taking over the responsibilities of policemen because they are infallible (it does sound a little too familiar doesn’t it), but the apocalyptic power story presents some fresh, fun angles. It was particularly entertaining watching Hugh Jackman play an out-and-out baddie. Dev Patel has become quite the Star. 4.5 cats” |
