Michael says: “After only being able to view the first three quarters of this film at Virtual Sundance, I got to watch the entire film at the Maine International Film Festival, and this time I just loved it. Truly beautiful storytelling — yeah, it’s a tone poem, which I usually don’t like, but this story about a father and son reunited after a prison stint, explores the struggle of the young black man trying to overcome toxic masculinity to connect to this son. What was especially nice was to se the role of the mother highlighted as well, since this is something that affects all members of the family.
“Gorgeous score, lovely magical realism and imagery, and fantastic performances, especially from Danielle Brooks as the mother, J. Alphonse Nicholson as the father, and newcomer Bodhi Dell as the son, Little Ant. Most importantly, it really makes you feel something. Well done. 4 1/2 cats“
