Michael says: “I thought it was a good movie. Ben Whishaw gives a particularly good performance, and the film made me curious about the real woman that Rebecca Hall played. While the film is essentially Whishaw playing Hujar recounting every step of the previous day, director Ira Sachs does some interesting things with still images — portraits — which Hujar was famous for. And it was only 76 minutes. I gave it 3 1/2 cats.”

Diane says: “An elegant bauble of a film. Created from the transcript of an interview with NYC photographer Hujar (1934-87) by his friend, writer Linda Rosenkrantz, about every single thing he had done the day before.

“What is most interesting about this movie is how the cinematography–okay, and the actors–keep us engaged in some very dull content. (How much was his chicken lo mein? Did he take his shoes off when he took a nap?) It does have fun name drops (Ginsberg, Sontag).

“My takeaway: what a good friend Linda was, to listen closely and patiently to the details of Peter’s day–even tho it was her idea for a project. Isn’t listening the best thing a friend can offer? 3 cats.”
