Diane says: “Will Farrell and his longtime friend Harper Steele, writer for SNL, cook up a cross-country trip so that Harper, recently transitioned to a woman, can become comfortable anew with all the bro places she used to hang out in: small town bars in the heart of the country, basketball games, demolition derbies…
“The whole doc begs the question: does the camera affect people’s behavior? It seems to me that people watch their behavior because they are in the presence of a star, or getting a chance to be in a movie. It is only in the tweets about the roadtrip, read by Harper, that hostility is rampant. (And Texas loses the congeniality competition.)
The film has many sweet and teary moments. Harper is very candid about her insecurities and Will is a compassionate friend. Kudos to him for disporting in a Speedo to entertain Harper and us. Overall, a good vehicle for learning about transgender and how to welcome people who have transitioned. 3 cats.
“Screened at Telluride-by-the-Sea.”
