Based on a real story, a continually discouraged guy makes it as an entertainer on a wild path in self-promotion and blaxploitation films. For a while I thought ‘why am I watching this?’ (especially because of the assaultive language). But I got swept up by a fun and inspirational story. Murphy is a pleasure to watch in the title role. 4.5 cats.”
