Michael says: “What a delightful surprise when Chris told me about this charming Canadian film from 2016, written by Chlotrudis pal Daniel MacIvor, directed by the prolific Bruce McDonald, and featuring the magnificent Molly Parker in a supporting role. Set in rural Nova Scotia on the eve of the American bicentennial, a young couple in their teens decide to hitchhike to Sydney, a couple hours away by car so that Kit can reunite with his mother, after living with his dad and grandma. His girlfriend Alice is along for the ride to make sure he gets there safely, and secretly suspicious that Kit will actually remain there permanently. Kit ultimately dreams of being a writer and idolizes Andy Warhol and the bohemian lifestyle of New York artists among whom he consider his mother, who had a brief modeling career. As the film progresses, it becomes evident that Kit wants to live with his mom because he’s worried that his dad won’t accept him when he finally comes out as gay. Sadly, Mom has issues of her own, which lead to her being separated from the family.
