Michael says: “I caught this back in December but never got around to reviewing it. I have to tell you I was giddy for hours… even days after seeing Paul Thomas Anderson’s decidedly bizarre adaptation of Upton Sinclair’s novel, Oil. I’m not a big fan of Daniel Day-Lewis’ recent work, as it comes across as so over-the-top as to be comical, but he couldn’t have been more perfect as Daniel Plainview in THERE WILL BE BLOOD. Kudos to Anderson for casting him and harnessing that hammy quality to outstanding use. And where the heck did Paul Dano’s performance come from? He was the superb foil to Day-Lewis’ bellowing antics. ‘I drink your milkshake…’ is the latest quote, and if I could include sound effects in my sig file, it just might take Sparkle Motion’s place for a while. THERE WILL BE BLOOD is also visually spectacular, with a craaaazy score that was such a terrific complement to Anderson’s wild movie. 4.5 cats”
