Thom says: “This charming Film Movement entry from Israel has a lot to recommend it. A 15-year-old girl arrives in Israel during the 2006 war between Israel & Lebanon. Her mother has sent her to the Middle East from California to spend some time with her father whom she hasn’t seen in many years. He’s a bit of a reprobate who is always trying to kick-start one of his many crazy inventions such as mini-cigarettes or a smoke-inhaling machine. He’s never really been able to take care of himself although loaded with charm. The mother knows this so the only reasons to send the girl abroad are specious at best. Like the despicable mother in THE DYNAMITER she’s never seen. Since Shaul & Libi (father & daughter) have no place to live Shaul hustles his way through one dubious situation after another all the while trying to enhance his tenuous and contentious relationship with Libi who’s clearly lonely and confused. They finally end up with a family in the South claiming to be war-torn refugees from the continuing conflagration who they start to bond with emotionally with complex results. The characters are involving and conflicted in very appealing ways. 4.5 cats”
