Tom says: “It’s been 9 years since Bertolucci’s last film, the very disappointing THE DREAMERS, a film with a distinct lack of conviction, but the Italian master has been responsible for some of my all-time favorite films including THE COMFORMIST, THE LAST EMPEROR, & my 1990 FILM-OF-THE-YEAR THE SHELTERING SKY. This minor piece is beautifully filmed but with a story that holds little interest. Lorenzo, an adolescent, pimply-faced, introvert, who’s downright nasty to his mother, lies to his parents and instead of going off on a luxury ski-trip with classmates he collects supplies to hide out in the basement of his building. Intruding on his solitude is his drug-addicted older half-sister who desperately needs his help as she goes through serious heroin withdrawal. 3 cats”
