Bruce says: “I generally try not to review the big blockbusters but as a gigantic Superman fan I thought I could add my 2-cents-worth. I’ve seen SUPERMAN, SUPERMAN II, SUPERMAN III, SUPERMAN IV: THE QUEST FOR PEACE, SUPERMAN RETURNS, & watched all of ‘THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN’ (1952-1958) & ‘SMALLVILLE’ (2001-2011, one of my ALL-TIME-FAVOURITE television series). I passed on ‘LOIS & CLARK: THE NEW ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN ‘(too silly) but I read and collected as many Superman comics as I could up to my 35th birthday, so I was well-versed in the Superman legend. So while I was fascinated by the serious cast & approve of Cavill as a serious candidate for the coveted role the film took way too many liberties with the legend. I suppose with the character so ingrained in fantasy legend the filmmakers felt they could make
adjustments with a legend, much as they do with vampires coming under many guises in the glut of films and television they appear in, but I was annoyed. Lois Lane is not supposed to know from the start who Clark Kent is, Clark Kent didn’t roam around the country as a hobo, etc., etc. More disappointing still, as impressive as Michael Shannon was as the nefarious General Zod, there was entirely too much action and not enough character development. The visuals on the planet Krypton were particularly gorgeous & Adams made for an endearing Lois Lane. I missed Jimmy Olsen a lot. 3 cats”
