Brett says: “A film that’s still a little rough around the edges, this is a teen/20-somethings romp centered on a female circle of friends. Though they engage in annual summer escapades with their male companions, one of the girls has sensed a calling from the woods this particular summer, which has enticed her toward an uninhabited house. Her ominous lures on the other girls are cast, and it’s not long before the group abandons life in society and sets up shop in the isolated wilderness like little Lord of the Flies-infested Henry David Thoreaus.

“The title HONEYCOMB is a product of overlapping bee references, most notable and spoiler-free is the beehive logo or insignia one of the girls carves into the walls of the new home as a symbol of the group’s newly formed collective mentality. From there, the film devises a colony motif to set up a shift into delirium and shock value rested upon the sets of peculiar rules made within this  micro-society.

“There are noticeable editing jumps, sound mixing inconsistencies, and acting-for-the-camera hurdles throughout the film, which highlight the micro-budget and inexperienced film-making within, but it is a film that has spirit to it. With so many choices in horror out there, this one might not be one that is readily sought out, but it is clearly a work designed to be fun and a shared first-time experience on a set for those who were involved in the project. Some will see it as self-indulgent and coming up well short of other films of this particular genre (or sub-genre). Others might like rooting for a cast and crew that defied the odds and made themselves a feature film they can call their own. 1 cat out of 5

“Recommended for underdog film fans who like giving nontraditional film-makers a chance

“Not recommended if you’re chasing a thrill or fright usually associated with the horror genre”
