Diane says: “IL DIVO is difficult for Americans to understand. One has to know the Italian political scene to appreciate who the actors are and the machinations. Reading subtitles for the Italian dialogue doesn’t leave time to catch the original titling of who’s who, and they’re all middle-aged white men in suits. Nevertheless: the operatic (opera buffo?) tone of the film, the fantastical cinematography, and the superlative acting of lead Toni Servillo (a strained, still point amidst the swirl of politics and violence) make this worth seeing. It averages out at 3 cats ”
