Thom says: “Another outstanding winner from the ever-reliable Film Movement. This French eclair has a terrific plot with a romantic flair that often seems like the French have a lock on. Eli (Blanc) is celebrating his 60th birthday when he announces that his much younger wife Suzanne is pregnant. His two daughters Justine & Dom are horrified because he’s been a terrible father to them and has no current qualities that are the least bit fatherly. He even insults Suzanne who eventually kicks him out of their domicile. Dom is married but Justine has had a series of boy friends. She is a radiologist and is currently making rather striking art projects by stringing together a series of x-rays that she has taken. Her current flame she met as a patient and he is her current muse. But when Eli starts nosing around the beau he drops Justine. The hilarious turn of events shows that while Eli has never been close to Justine he has followed her life and consistently befriended all her exes, unbeknownst to Justine. While a certain sadness permeates the proceedings the lessons learned are heartfelt and life-changing. 4.5 cats”
Marilyn says: “I saw this at the Aspen Film Festival and could not agree more with Thom’s review. This movie is a gem and what I call ‘A Smiler’ meaning you leave the theater with a smile. Poignant and sweet.”
