In order I’ve seen LE LIAISONS DANGEREUSES (1959, Roger Vadim, 5 CATS), DANGEROUS LIAISONS (1988, Stephen Frears, 5 CATS), VALMONT (1989, Milos Forman, 5 CATS), a stage version of the story on Broadway (5 KITTIES), CRUEL INTENTIONS (1999, Roger Kumble, 5 CATS, an upscale teen setting with Reese Witherspoon & husband-to-be Ryan Phillippe), DANGEROUS LIAISONS (2003, Josée Dayan, 4.5 CATS), & UNTOLD SCANDAL (2003, Je-yong Lee, 5 CATS, 18th century Korea) & now this Shanghai version that proves the story translates to any culture, any time period and remain true to the spirit of the original epistolary novel by Choderlos de Laclos, a career army Brigadier General under Napoleon in the late 18th century France. The ending was a minor letdown. I just know there are other versions out there. 4.5 cats
