Toni says: “I am not a person that either loves or hates Cronenberg but I am less into perverse stuff and more into his thrillers or more dialogue driven pieces with solid visuals and sound. I accidentally ended up seeing A DANGEROUS METHOD but was afraid it was going be be in the vein of CRASH in its obsession with perversion but it was surprisingly more about human behavior and the history of psychoanalysis and rise and fall of a working friendship. There was an excellent chemistry between the
triangle of characters of Viggo Mortensen as Freud, Michael Fassbender as Jung and Keira Knightly as Sabina Spielrein as with very solid performances. Vincent Cassel (also brilliant in EASTERN PROMISES) makes about a 15 minute stellar appearance as Otto Gross, a both nasty and engaging character (based on the real man).
“I was also impressed that a biopic of sorts could clock in around 90 minutes to the thanks of the tight editing giving you the meat of the story versus too much lingering which was refreshing (unlike TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY which I personally thought was the most boring film of the year with confusing editing choices and dull characters with no substance – a waste of talent for certain). (At least with both THE TREE OF LIFE and the Tree of Death AKA MELANCHOLIA the slow pacing was for more on purpose fantasy purpose but TTSS was supposed to be a crime/spy thriller… 4 1/2 cats
