Diane says: “Caught this newAndré Téchiné film at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts French Film Festival. Gerard Depardieu is a well-to-do French businessman overseeing construction in Tangiers, where, coincidentally, the love of his youth and of his life (Catherine Deneuve) lives now, married to a hedonistic doctor (Gilbert Melki). Deneuve’s son is also in town with his girlfriend and her son, to spend time with the love of _his_ life, a man.

“The movie is okay. I would have preferred more backstory for the older characters, and perhaps a paring down of the storylines. (Melki is back to dealing with a junkie, as in THE TRILOGY.) Could Gerard have been micast? I exploded in laughter whenever he proclaimed his aim to win Deneuve back (to her and her husband), with his hangdog look and naive straighforwardness, but I don’t think the movie means to be a comedy. Melki and Deneuve are perfect in their roles as a couple going their separate ways. 3 cats.”
