Diane says: “First film from collaborators Scott Monahan and Dakota Loesch, ANCHORAGE was shot in five days with a crew of ten. The director and writer also play the two leads, brothers who hit the road to sell a huge stash of stolen drugs they stole and get rich quick. Loesch said this in the Q&A: ‘You put a Sam Shepherd play like ‘True West’ in a Cadillac and you send it across the country with a trunkful of pills and see what happens.’ What happens is affected by their sampling the product pretty heavily, their near-mythic fraternal connection, and a development that managed to draw a gasp out of me even in this film where violence is ever present. The two filmmakers come out of immersive theater, so have decided to put us, the viewer, in the back seat of the car as the brothers drive through the California desert. Good editing and use of music, and the costume designer must have had a ball.

“Fans of Quentin Dupieux will see shades of MANDIBLES. ANCHORAGE has some humor, even silliness–the brothers engage in games from their childhood like clapping songs and narrating their imaginary baseball game, but intensity and tragedy win out. 4 cats
