| Thom says: “I probably will be damned as a terrible cynic for my reaction to this film. I saw this book for months at the top of the non-fiction best seller lists and thought what the Hell? So I sort of knew what I was getting into but obviously only saw it due to the presence of Margo Martindale in a brave performance as Nancy Rawling, a feisty churchgoer. The film is about a young boy (4) Colton (Corum), whose father is a small-town minister, who has a near-death experience while being operated on to save his life, where he envisions Heaven, populated by Jesus and other people (angels?) that he shouldn’t even know, as they are all passed. Should the decent mom and pop (Todd & Sonja Burpo) share the miracle of their son’s experience with their friends, relatives, & parishioners? Is this the same Heaven where everyone in the world would go to if they passed muster by God? Were they prepared for the humongous success of the first-hand account of this miracle? And how many have received succor from this supposed life-affirming tale? It was all a little much for me to fathom. 1 cat“ |
