Julie says: “I was somewhat mesmerized by SURFWISE. Director Doug Pray tells the story of Dorian ‘Doc’ Paskowitz, a Stanford educated doctor and renowned surf guru who chose to raise his 9 children in a somewhat ‘unconventional’ way (although Paskowitz would beg to differ on this last point).
“The film intertwines photos, archival footage and current day interviews quite cohesively. One tends to forget they’re looking at still photographs. The beautiful archival footage documents the Paskowitz family, world events, time and place quite eleoquently.
“The music for the movie was written and performed by one of my all time favorite musicians, Boston local, John Dragonetti AKA ‘Jack Drag’. Check out the ‘special feature’ surf short by Doug Pray/ music by Dragonnetti. Just brilliant!
“It’s a shame that a lot of the reels of film of the Paskowitz family were found after the movie was completed.
“You may not agree with all of Dorian’s philosophies, but the story is quite fascinating and forces one to think about the real meaning of living well, success, family and happiness. 4.5 cats”
