Michael says: “Director Nicolás Pereda’s latest film is an homage to his mother, and focuses on Tere, one of first of a cohort of Mexico’s female composers, her good friend, Rose, another composer, and her daughter being interviewed in her apartment for the local news. While the interview is supposed to focus on Rosa, Tere is drawn in as is her daughter, and they fend off silly questions from the interviewer by making up stories that lack consherency, while dealing with dogs barking in neighboring apartments, car horns blasting from traffic below, and the power in the apartment that keeps cutting out.

“The film has a couple of major moments, including a lengthy opening scene of the morning traffic jam below the apartment, a needs-to-be-heard-to-be-believed cello solo, and the magnificent ending, a truly joyous moment bringing mother and daughter together in an unexpected release. Pereda and co-screenwriter Juan Francisco Maldo do a beautiful job weaving in the quiet strength of these under-recognized women who endure the overbearing strutting of the men around them while they make their own marks in the world.  The sound design is truly remarkable, and the humor is both laugh-out-loud and absurd. 4 cats
