In Olivier Assayas’ SUSPENDED TIME, he creates a autobiographical narrative of the confinement period, when he, his rock journalist brother, and their partners spend quarantine in the brothers’ childhood family home. The brothers react in polar opposite ways to the quarantine, with Etienne internally railing against it, viewing it as a loss of his personal liberty and ability to do whatever he wants, while Olivier, much more tuned in to the guidelines and fearful of contracting COVID, finds the confinement liberating in that he can step out of the constant rush of life and ‘suspend time.’
