Diane says: “Okay, there are two well-known facts about Jeff Buckley: he had an incredible voice, and he killed himself. Okay, three: he sang the popular version of ‘Hallelujah.’

“The doc IT’S NEVER OVER by Amy Berg has been very well received. I, however, found it attenuated and lacking in depth. It seemed like you could make up this doc without a real person inside it (perhaps an AI confabulation) — just add talent, manic depression, and interviews with girlfriends. I realized, while watching, that what would really satisfy me would be to listen to Buckley’s album. So I shall. 2 cats.
“Since it was the last show of the run, I was given one of the posters. Let me know if you want it for your dorm room.”
Julie B. says: “Unlike Diane, I loved this film! Just watching the trailer now again gave me goosebumps. The film pieced together a beautiful collage of Jeff’s life including interviews with Jeff and those who knew and/or admired him with his performances, recordings, voice messages, writings and songs. This film painted a clear picture of the making and development of a musical genius and one of the best singers of our time. It also depicts what can happen with the pressures of being in the music industry, although I saw a BBC doc on him that gives more in that aspect I think the film is a much more enjoyable watch. I recommend watching the bbc doc after the film as you will still have questions yes. 4.875 Cats
Cheryl says: “Agreed Julie! As a music doc it may be a love letter but it works. And the film raises questions about whether or not he intended to commit suicide, so I don’t think that can be considered a ‘well-known fact’. What is known is that he drowned in the river. My review was posted as part of my recap of this year’s Provincetown International Film Festival.

“Magnolia Pictures did a cool marketing stunt by screening rare footage of Jeff performing at the Middle East Night Club  in Cambridge as a ‘bonus’ at theatrical screenings. “
