Robert says: “Historically overshadowed by Woodstock is the series of rock shows that toured Canada by train in 1970. The brainchild of promoters Ken Walker and Thor Eaton, the shows featured acts like Janis Joplin, The Grateful Dead and The Band. Not only has director Bob Smeaton, who wrote and directed The Beatles Anthology (1995), captured the energy of these lost performances, but he provides an astonishing fly-on-the-wall view of what was, perhaps, the biggest and coolest non-stop party ever (with plenty of booze but no drugs). The supplementals on the DVD include a 50-minute ‘bonus set,’ as well as about 30 minutes of interviews. Score: 4 cats
