A Still Small Voice

“I watched this doc about hospital chaplaincy because I went thru some of that training myself. Because chaplaincy training involves so much inner work (for both students and supervisor), the topic makes for a pretty boring film!

“Chaplain Mati, third-generation of Holocaust survivors, says, “I have no idea where my prayers are going.” Supervisor David dreads his work and wants to quit. How easy their days seem compared to the bustle (as I imagine it) of the rest of Mount Sinai Hospital, especially during Covid (cf. 76 DAYS). The director tries to ease the sameness of scenes of group class, spiritual direction on Zoom, meditation, etc. by interspersing them with shots of movement.

“While Mati’s conversations with patients are the highlights—to see the actual work of offering spiritual care and emotional support—this film may be most helpful to those who are burnt out in their professions. 2 cats.”
