Chris says: “Interesting that Brian De Palma made this between PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE and CARRIE: it feels almost beholden to reverently emulating (rather than simply paying affectionate homage to) a certain Hitchcock film (Bernard Herrmann score and all!) except for a climactic twist even ol’ Alfred wasn’t enough of a sicko to attempt. Genevieve Bujold’s at least as good as Kim Novak, though Cliff Robertson’s a tad too oily in the James Stewart role (a youngish John Lithgow fares better, N’awlins accent and all.) It ticks off all the boxes, but it doesn’t sing until that glorious, endless 360-degree pan at the finale. 3 cats”
