Vicki says: “ACCEPTED is a provocative and timely documentary. What makes it stand out is its bizarre number of unexpected turns. Chen follows four students as he begins his profile of the TM Landry Prep school where all students achieve high academics and end up in good colleges. The school’s leader is not your typical educator and Chen sheds light on the unconventional methods used by the founder. Then The NY Times publishes a scathing article about the school pointing to falsifying records and grades to gain acceptance plus instilling fear into the students through some pretty nasty behavior. The lives of the four students are obviously changed and Chen handles them with great sensitivity. Chen then turns his attention to ‘Operation Varsity Blues,’ their admissions scandal that rocked Hollywood. How different are these in reality? Just two sets of students caught in the same system of education and Chen leaves us with food for thought to question that system. 4 cats
