Michael says: “This impressive film by British director Ken Loach hits pretty hard. Two Latina sisters work as janitors in L.A. When the possibility of unionization comes up, alliances are torn apart and secrets uprooted, but in the end, family and friendship remain the strongest bonds.
“There are no easy answers in Loach’s film and it’s fascinating to watch people chose their stands, both pro and con, or somewhere in between, all with valid reasons. Just when you’re thinking, ‘I can’t believe Rosa did that!’ we are shown her reasons and we feel like we’ve been kicked in the gut.
“The cast is terrific, led by the two sisters, Maya (Pilar Padilla) and Rosa (Elpidia Carrillo from both PREDATOR movies, believe it or not, and also THINGS YOU CAN TELL JUST BY LOOKING AT HER.) Adrien Brody (LIBERTY HEIGHTS, SUMMER
OF SAM, and THE THIN RED LINE) plays a union organizer.
There are great cameos by Jack McGee, and Ron Pearlman, all playing themselves at a ritzy party too!” 3 1/2 cats
