Enough so that some insensitive bastard criticizing on Ratings and Reviews for New Movies and TV Shows – IMDb wrote that the educators and parents involved here were total failures and all the disturbed kid needed was to be whipped into shape. Alex & Greg Wheeler (2 more television superstars in Claire Danes [‘Homeland’] & Jim Parsons [‘The Big Bang Theory’]) love their 4-year-old son Jake and even have come to accept his fondness for girly-things but when a forward-thinking preschool director suggests that his acting out might be more than just a phase and that Jake is really a girl trapped in a boy’s body their entire world is turned upside down. Not only does their realistic concern for Jake’s future & their own unclear thinking on how to act bring a toxic divisiveness to home life but to their outward relationships as well. The enlightened director is knowingly & wisely played by the talented Olivia Spencer, providing quite a swing from her evil-turn as Sue Ann in MA which I had seen 2 days previously. Ann Dowd adds excellent support as Alex’s confused mother. I love Danes but her character seemed not far enough removed from her agitprop character in ‘Homeland’. 3 1/2 cats“
