Thom says: “French-born Frédéric Tcheng has also directed the memorable DIANA VREELAND: THE EYE HAS TO TRAVEL (4.5 CATS) & DIOR & I (4 CATS) so he certainly has his fashion chops down but that he hasn’t quite hit the top is of some concern seeing that all his subjects are fashion icons of the very highest order. Fashion film biographies are one of my favourite film genres so perhaps I’m being too critical, but the approach taken by Tcheng, while adoring, but rather objective, is by-the-book with no great technique. Examples of fashion films that have gotten top rating are WESTWOOD: PUNK, ICON, ACTIVIST & McQUEEN. Halston (a one-name celebrity) rose to fame in the 70s & became one of the most financially successful designers in the history of fashion. No world woman of a certain worth would have been caught dead without a Halston in her closet. But his spectacular rise was eventually followed by disgraceful ruin which heightens the tension of the film. Because I’ve never had the means to be fashionable films like these & television shows like “Project Runway” & “Making the Cut” keep me sweetly in the loop. 4.5 cats“
