Diane says: “ZERO DARK THIRTY–the wonderful Kathryn Bigelow’s version of The Hunt for Osama bin Laden–is grueling and thrillerish. (Be forewarned about the trailers you might get on this one–some of them are really sick, e.g., THE CALL) It is also a paean to the people on all levels who work relentlessly at intelligence gathering.
“I’m sure you’ve heard the criticism that the movie endorses torture. That seems naive. Surely there are plenty of people like me who don’t believe that the end validates the means? Scenes of men being water boarded, and shots of the bright orange jumpsuits of Guantanamo, bring up shame, not satisfaction.
“On a lighter note, the cast is magnificent, but–biggest disappointment of the year: Mark Duplass’ role is tiny!”
“I felt both
grateful and guilty for being able to walk out of the theater and into normal life knowing that our government pays people to do the dirty work of killing for us. 4 cats”
