Diane says: “Major disappointment! Maybe I was too excited by my sister’s prediction that YA would be the female CHUCK AND BUCK. Maybe I’ve been too captivated by the cringeworthy, edgy dialogue of the Duplass brothers. YA’s story is flat and clumsy. I wish that director Reitman and writer Cody had pushed it harder. Lead’s backstory becomes too diffuse. Revelations
that should become significant are dropped.
“Theron is fine (but I sure can’t agree with reviewers who say the character is likeable). Her beauty is so central to the story that I was annoyed by hair/makeup continuity probs. Patton Oswalt, of BIG FAN stardom, does a great job as loser Matt. But it’s a little weird: Matt’s story is awfully similar to the subject of MARWENCOL. While the movie is set in Minnesota, it was filmed mostly in NY. (Complain,complain…) 2 cats”
