Michael says: “Paul Giamatti plays Mike Flaherty, an attorney in a New Jersey town who is struggling to make ends meet. When an opportunity presents itself for him to become the guardian of one of his elderly clients and make some extra money, he jumps at the chance even though he has to lie about where the man will live. Life becomes complicated when Kyle, the man’s grandson arrives from Ohio and Mike takes him in. Kyle was a star wrestler in Ohio before he got into trouble, and his presence turns the fortunes of the wrestling team that Mike coaches to gold. But when Kyle’s mother comes into town threatening to take both him and his grandfather home with her to Ohio, Mike finds himself in a bind. Fairly straightforward screenplay is enhanced by strong performances, particularly from newcomer Shaffer, Giamatti and Ryan as Mike’s wife Jackie. Other highlights include Melanie Lynskey as Kyle’s mom, Margo Martindale and her attorney, and Nina Ariadna as Mike’s assistant. 3 1/2 cats”
