Michael says: “Both thoughtful and whimsical, Arvin Chen’s WILL YOU STILL LOVE ME TOMORROW is a poignant exploration of a married couple’s domestic struggle while trying to have a child, when the husband realizes he cannot deny his homosexuality.  Weichung and Feng have great affection for each other.  They’ve been together for years and seem relatively happy… or at least comfortable.  When Weichung reconnects with one his old pals at his sister’s engagement party, the encounter brings back feelings from his youth when he enjoyed the company of a circle of friends who are all gay.  Soon after, he encounters a handsome flight attendant in the eyeglass shop he manages, and those feelings he thought buried come surging forward.  Feng notices his lack of enthusiasm as the couple tries to conceive and wonders what the problem is.

“Chen balances the difficult emotions of a couple who love each other, falling apart with some lovely gentle humor.  The large cast, including Weichung’s fun-loving sister finally trying to settle down with a stable, but more low-key man, adds nuance and depth to the gentle storytelling.  The acting is strong, particularly in Maavis Fang’s Feng.  Her confusion, anger, compassion and frustration are well played and an effective way to connect with the viewer.  The emotions are conveyed so authentically, and the story avoids the usual gay rom-com clichés that this film ended up my favorite of the festival.  5 cats
