Michael says: “THE WAITING ROOM is director Peter Nicks’ feature doc debut, and in it, he takes us through 24 hours of a busy hospital emergency waiting room. I joked before I saw it that it was a real look behind ‘Nurse Jackie,’ and after seeing it, that description is pretty accurate. Nicks is granted some pretty phenomenal access to patients and medical care providers both. Whether we are
following estranged parents whose daughter is having trouble swallowing, a young couple with dealing with testicular cancer, or a homeless, alcoholic man admitted after a night of severe drinking, all of the stories touch the viewer powerfully. The triage nurse is fantastic, scolding a young man whose uses rude, insensitive language, then kindly, but firmly explaining to someone who is tired of waiting, that everyone in this room has been waiting, and they are no less important. Fast-paced, economical and eye-opening, THE WAITING ROOM is a powerful doc. 4 cats”
Julie says: “I think not enough people got to see this doc before noms so it has gone off the radar but it’s worth seeing. There were a lot of strong docs this year so hard in the end to whittle it down but this one is worth seeing. Thanks to Michael for recommending it to me!”
