Howard says: “I found this winning tale of hope quite wonderful. It’s a romantic mystery film about a young woman never giving up even though all signs point to her finance lying dead in the middle of a WWI battlefield.
“This is somewhat of a departure for Jean-Pierre Jeunet as this film isn’t whimsical as his others. There are some gruesome film shots and scenes of the despairs of war all done beautiful as only Jeunet can do.
“It was also nice to hear Angelo Badalamenti again. His score is beautiful albeit unobtrusive as a good score should be. And it was fun to see Jeunet usual suspects sprinkled throughout. Dominique Pinon and, especially, Chantal Neuwirth are wonderful as Mathilde’s (Audrey Tautou) uncle and aunt.
“It’s another winner from Jeunet whose AMELIE tops my favorite films of all time list. Highly recommended. 4 Cats.”
