Diane says: “I had decided against seeing this doc, until the trailer presented itself to me in the theater. It’s a delightful work, especially for fans of the writing process and history. Book editor (and New Yorker editor) Robert Gottlieb’s daughter is the director. She interviews both her father and Lyndon Johnson biographer Robert Caro, whom her father has edited for 40-50 years. Both men are very funny, idiosyncratic, and passionate about their work. Now in their 80s, they will bend to the documentarian’s will.
“I found myself returning to moments of the film, either funny or poignant. And I am so glad I have gotten to know Robert Caro. 5 cats“
Julie B. responds: “Thanks to Diane for this review and encouraging me to see this fantastic documentary! Yes very interesting movie for the writing process, history (things I never knew-who knew?) and how history repeats itself. I now have a 6 book reading list as well. I am so happy I got to know Robert A. Gottlieb and Robert A. Caro. Both incredible men in their own rights. 5 Cats as well for me”
Laks responds: “I loved TURN EVERY PAGE. I’m also so very happy to have got to know Gottleib. How many knew that Catch 22 was originally Catch 18!? That was news to me! Also that he edited Le Carre!?
“How did one mind leave so much literature that has shaped the world? I wish there’d be more films about other editors and their relationship with their writers and agents.”
