Diane says: “A tale loosely based on Little Red Riding Hood, with subtle reminders of its fairytale origins in the bells and banjo of the score. I loved that, for maybe the first third, I was completely in the dark as to what might be going on. Director/writer Kelsey Taylor started as a cinematographer, and her work here with DP Adam Lee is worthy of a cine nom–the patterns of the Oregon forest are grounding and mysterious at the same time. Tense and satisfying, just like a Grimm Brothers tale. 4 cats.

Jeff says: “I thought Ivan Martin was insanely good in the way he slowly revealed the humanitarian behind those blank eyes and that haircut, as memorable as the moustache in SHARP CORNER. I wished that Maddison Brown’s character could have shown a wider emotional range, and I was a little mystified by the motive behind the decision she made. I thought that was a weak point in the script. Given the trauma she was experiencing, maybe that made sense?

“As a first feature, I thought it showed a lot of promise, and I look forward to more from Ms. Taylor.
“P.S. I am a geography nerd and an Oregonian, and I will say it was geographically incoherent. No way there was a cattle ranch in that rain forest. There is a town in Oregon called Klamath Falls, but not one called Klamath, and it’s not right outside of Portland, as grandma’s house appeared to be. But those are quibbles I forgive.”
Michael says: “Nice reframing of Little Red Riding Hood. Reminiscent of the strong work of Robert Machoian. First-time filmmaker Kelsey Taylor puts together a taut, well structured film with just enough tension, and just enough compassion to make it all work. 4 cats
