Chris says: “Conceived with Peter Sarsgaard in mind, this indie where he portrays a cerebral NYC ‘house tuner’ (calibrating frequencies in clients’ homes in order to effect their moods) begins strongly and ends memorably–shame about what comes in between, however, for the premise, while unique, just doesn’t develop into something compelling. Sarsgaard is so good it is inconceivable to imagine anyone else in the role and Rashida Jones has sufficient presence to elevate her part above your standard female lead. Still, all of its lovely music and composition does not fill the hole left by a narrative difficult to latch on to

Julie says: “Overall I would have to agree with Chris’s review. I momentarily dozed off during this one. Chris can confirm how long (I am not sure!) as we sat next to each other at this show. It was an interesting premise and great acting by Sarsgaard for sure. It was followed by a 9:30 showing of THE ART OF SELF DEFENSE which I was on the edge of my seat for so it wasn’t just a matter of being tired due to too much film festing!
here is what I wrote right after seeing it:
This movie is an acquired taste. I liked it but I can see why many did not. It has subtle elements that are good. If you’re obsessed with all things music, sound (and silence) you’ll probably like it. There is also an interesting aspect related to publishing in the scientific world and keeping ideas secret until then that I could relate to. Sometimes easier said than done!”
