On the one hand, it might feel like a lot of everything — it is mermaids and vampires and musical numbers — but it all works together to speak about exploitation, promises, love. Visually energetic. “THE LURE revisits Hans Christian Andersen’s classic. At the crossroad between a musical and a rebellious horror film, this fairy tale for adults takes the viewer into a world inspired by Warsaw’s dance scene in the ’80s. One evening, Gold and Silver, two mermaid sisters, leave their underwater world to step into the human world. They end up in a night club where local divas perform classics such as ‘I Feel Love’ by Donna Summer or ‘Bylas serca biciem’ by Andrzej Zaucha surrounded by disco balls and neon lights. When the owners discover that the sisters’ beautiful legs turn into fish tails at the touch of water, they immediately see the potential for new flamboyant shows. 5 cats”
Julie says: “The good thing about nominations time is I find I’m miraculously seeing so many excellent films one after the other! Okay, in reality it is due to the hard work of all chlotrudis members coming to a consensus on what is best to see.
“While this movie was nominated for best music only, I loved the story and production design as well. So many funny and sometimes relatable moments despite it’s horror-fantasy elements. This movie is special. I’d liken it to something like Brazil and Delicatessen infeeling and ambiance(sound music visuals important in those as well),yet totally different.
“I am imaging this might have also been in the running for best ensemble cast? 5 cats“
