Michael says: “This debut feature from Chile is a magical realist fable that tackles a lot of issues with a cryptic story that’s pretty indecipherable, but it’s beautiful to look at and sounds great, and the themes around rebirth, environment and female power resonate pretty strongly with me. In fact it seems pretty deliberate that filmmaker Francisca Alegria uses cows and bees as the featured animal characters in this film alongside a grandmother long dead who returns to life, a mother who is a doctor, and a daughter who is trans, that they are all women enmeshed in the environs of our beleaguered heroine, Mother Nature. 4 cats

Julie B. says: “THE COW WHO SANG A SONG INTO THE FUTURE is an assured first feature that gently weaves an intimate, personal story about motherhood, family, trauma and loss into a wider fable about environmental ruin and the quiet, enduring power of the natural world.” from https://www.bfi.org.uk/sight-and-sound/reviews/cow-who-sang-song-into-future-haunting-ecological-fable

“I wish I would have gone to the discussion last Sunday to hear people’s thoughts  but I felt I needed to watch this one again as it had been awhile.

“It really was fantastic with great ensemble cast, well done cinematography and incredible music in the form of vocals. I also loved that one dance scene and music to that.

“‘With finely tuned magical realist sensibilities, first-time writer-director Francisca Alegria launches into a hauntingly atmospheric tale that denounces humanity’s untenable relationship with the natural world. Those abiding by an arrogant and exploitative understanding of our place on Earth, the film suggests, fail to listen to the creatures with whom we share this planet. In dismissing their concerns, they threaten their own existence’.

“‘Scenes in the forest at night feel the most supernatural, in large part due to cinematographer Inti Briones’ beguiling lighting choices.’

“Slight spoiler below perhaps best for those who have seen the movie. A nice description and commentary  I thought.”
