Thom says: “A good friend gave me a choice of 3 current features & I mistakenly chose this one. I think part of the problem was an age difference. Amongst the 70s group I’m afraid I’ve lost a lot of my shock value sense and what might have been delightful if smutty once now seems forced and purposeless. This takes place in an Oakland alternate universe that is coupled by an adorable pair, who live in the garage of a relative, having relationship problems. He’s an out-of-work charmer who enters into the telephone solicitation industry with insane pizzazz & success and rises towards the top of very heinous, arcane corporation populated by beasts. The 2 leads Thompson & Stanfield are charming & talented & I’m certain I’ll be seeing more of them. Some of the guest stars are rather wasted or overdone. Armie Hammer was hammy. The first half almost rocked but I lost interest quickly. The film did remind me of BEING JOHN MALKOVICH which was then highly praised.”
