Jeff says: “More experimental than straight up horror, SKINAMARINK looks like a fourth-generation VHS copy of a film originally shot on 16mm around 1972. It’s so grainy, you might find yourself asking if that fuzzy spot in the upper corner is a sign of impending doom or merely a filmic artifact. The sound is frequently as indistinct, with what few spoken lines exist so garbled that subtitles are sometimes provided for clarity (and sometimes because the characters speak French; why? I couldn’t tell you). The story, as brief as it is, concerns two children trying to fend off an evil presence with no help from their already compromised parents. To be honest, I found the evil presence to be cliché, and the least compelling part of the movie. The pleasure lies in the movie’s design and the journey it takes getting there. Be prepared for a leisurely one, although with abundant visual hijinks. 3.5 cats”
